Oversized and Fragile Baggage

Maximum Limits

Plan on travelling with any bulky or breakable baggage from sports equipment to delicate items? V Australia is happy to accept Guests’ oversize and fragile baggage, once appropriate packaging criteria has been met and when baggage falls within weight and size limitations.

Oversize and fragile baggage accepted on V Australia include but are not be limited to; glassware and breakables, odd shaped items, some types of sporting equipment, prams and large boxes. These items may require special handling and packaging. Please refer below for more information.

Due to handling restrictions, oversized items carried in the aircraft hold must adhere to the following restrictions:

Maximum Limits
Maximum Weight  32kg (70lb)
Maximum Length  277cm (109in)
Maximum Height  100cm (40in)
Maximum Width  84cm (33in)

Any oversized or fragile items exceeding the above limitations must be sent as Freight.

Certain bulky or fragile items will not be accepted as checked baggage; however the item may be carried in the aircraft cabin subject to V Australia approval. An additional seat must be purchased (charged at best fare of the day) to accommodate the safe carriage of this item. V Australia requires a minimum of 15 days notice, prior to the day of travel, for bulky baggage items to be approved for uplift.

Please note carriage of oversized and fragile baggage may be subject to additional costs and conditions. Please contact the Guest Contact Centre for more information.

Sporting Equipment

Each item of sporting equipment represents 1 piece of the free checked baggage allowance, provided that it does not exceed the maximum limits.

Bicycles

Bicycles will only be accepted onboard if packaged in a hard or soft manufactured bike box. Bike boxes must be purchased before you arrive at the airport. Before bicycles can be accepted for uplift, they must be packaged as follows:

  • Pedals must be removed
  • Tyres must be deflated
  • Handle bars must be turned parallel to the frame

Surfboards

Surfboards may only be accepted onboard if packaged in a protective covering, with padded protection around the fin area. V Australia recommends surfboard fins are removed where possible and placed in an enclosed compartment.

Skis/Snowboards

Snow skis and snowboards may only be accepted onboard if packaged in a protective ski/snowboard bag.

Interline and Codeshare Partners

Acceptance of bulky cabin baggage on Interline/Codeshare flights will depend on the operating carrier’s policy for each sector.
